Mandala

Mandala is a compound word (manda – essence, centre, pure flavour; and la – accomplishment, possession) hence we can read mandala as (that which) possesses the essence or (that which) accomplishes the true meaning/flavour.

Mandala is also used to denote a territory, kingdom, realm, enclosure, province or a palace – however, it is not merely a boundary marker, but also implies all that is contained within it. The Rg Veda’s books of mantric hymns are divided into mandalas.
